June 22, 2009 Road Update: State Route 123 and State Route 410 over Cayuse Pass and Chinook Pass are open. The Stevens Canyon Road between Chinook Pass and Paradise was still closed for repairs on June 22 expected to last through July.
Repair of storm damage on the Nisqually-Paradise Road is scheduled to begin soon with anticipated completion by mid-August. The road will remain open to traffic, but 20 minute delays should be expected. Storm damage repairs to the Stevens Canyon Road will keep portions of that road closed until mid-August. Starting May 22, park visitors coming from the west on Stevens Canyon Road will be able to drive as far as Backbone Ridge Overlook (MP 13.1) and from the east to the Grove of the Patriarchs just west of Highway 123.
The White River Road to the campground parking lot is tentatively scheduled to open May 20, though the road past there up to Sunrise won’t open until June 26 and the Sunrise Visitor Center and Sunrise Lodge won’t open for the season until July 3.
Mowich Lake Road is scheduled to open on July 3.
The new Henry M. Jackson Memorial Visitor Center at Paradise is open daily (10 a.m. – 5 p.m. weekdays and 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. weekends). The historic Paradise Inn is scheduled to reopen for the season Friday (May 15), providing lodging, dining and gifts.
Cougar Rock Campground is tentatively scheduled to open on May 22, though 3-4 feet of snow remains on the ground.
Part of the Ohanapecosh Campground will open on Friday May 22 in time for the Memorial Day Weekend and the White River Campground is scheduled to open on June 26.
